A special organ donor campaign targeting Muslims is aimed at informing the Muslims community about organ donation. The National Institute for the Promotion of Health Care and Disease Prevention ((NIGZ) started the campaign last week, it announced on Tuesday.
The campaign resulted from discussion at the 2006 symposium entitled "Islam and organ donation in the Netherlands," organised by the Contact Organisation for Muslims and the Government (CMO). Religious leaders and leading Muslim scholars drew up a declaration at the symposium. The essence of this statement is that Islam poses no obstacles to organ donation as long as a number of requirements are met.
