The Rotterdam City Council has decided that a sculpture by American modern artist Paul McCarthy will be put on a public square in the centre of the city. When the sculpture, called "SantaClaus" was first unveiled in 2005, Rotterdamers soon re-named it "Gnome Buttplug" for obvious reasons, and the sculpture was put on a courtyard in the Museum Boymans van Beuningen. Conservative parties in the City Council are against putting the sculpture in the public domain. Picture below: Rotterdam Mayor Mr. Ivo Opstelten unveiling the sculpture in 2005.
