Singapore Ministers to get more money

Singapore civil service salaries are set to go up and details of this will be announced in Parliament on the 9th of April. This was revealed by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Administrative Service dinner on Thursday. In his speech, Mr Lee said the government is also reviewing salaries for the political, judicial and statutory appointment holders. He added that it is critical for Singapore to keep their salaries competitive so that the country can bring in a continuing flow of able and successful people to be ministers and judges.

Singapore Ministers are currently earning only about S$ 100,000 (US$ 65,000 / € 50,000) per month, so it is about time that their salaries are raised. It is perfectly normal that a Singapore minister makes much more that the President of the USA, or the Prime Minister of the UK, or the Prime Minister of Australia. Think about the air conditioning bill (it is SO hot in Singapore) which is much higher than Tony Blair's, or the car prices which are so much higher than George Bush is paying, or having to deal with Chinese and Malay and Indian and foreign talent which is much more difficult than running a purely homogeneous country like Australia...........

Convinced?

$65,0000 a month? That would be $780,000 a year. The U.S. president only makes $400,000 a year. No wonder we are such a good deal nowadays.
