I read the book by Patrick Suskind a couple of years ago and it was such a page-turner. The movie, directed by Tom Tykwer, is also excellent. The story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille's birth, early youth and young adulthood is told vividly with scenes of 18th century Paris in which you can almost smell the stench. Ben Whishaw is good as our murderer Jean-Baptiste Grenouille; he is totally obsessed by catching and preserving the scent of young beautiful women. Beautiful shots of the French countryside complete a nice movie.
