Today is Ascension Day, a national holiday in the Netherlands. Of course, being a mostly secular country, nobody cares about why we have this holiday but everyone is enjoying a day off from work. And even better Ascension Day is always on a Thursday so almost everyone gets or takes Friday off as well. A four-day weekend has just begun! In case you want to know: Ascension Day marks the day when Jesus Christ ascended up into heaven. It was 40 days after his resurrection from the dead, which was on Easter Sunday.
